Working With Skywalker Sound

A couple of days ago I booked our final mix at Skywalker Sound. We start December 6th. That should give us plenty of time to get ready for Sundance/Slamdance. If you don’t know about Skywalker Sound: wiki entry

I feel truly blessed that our film is going to get the same treatment as such blockbusters as Contact, Titanic, A Bug’s Life, Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, The Incredibles, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and How to Train Your Dragon

And some non-blockbusters, but among my faves like Dogma and Clerks II!

All of these by our sound wizard Gary Rizzo. I only wish the VC people and distribution really understood the value of a great sound track and mix. Sound is fully half the film experience…maybe even more so. Why? Because bad sound can kill an otherwise good movie and good sound can save a bad one.

Booking Skywalker Sound

skywalker-garyrizzo

On this Tuesday, I’ll be doing the schedule for our final mix at Skywalker Sound. This locks in our finishing date.

Like my film prof Ann Alter told me,

“Your film is like your child, at some point you need to stop nurturing her and send her into the world to fend for herself.”

A Synopsis

Parker, a saxophonist, leaves a comfortable life to play music in dangerous Ganymede City. Rioting breaks out and a debt slave named Naia escapes and then rescues Parker from one of the regime’s thugs. They fall fast in love and form a band. Soon Naia is enslaved again, this time to the deadly stardom of the 28th century. Though down and out, Parker sets out on a quest to free Naia and redeem their love.

This gorgeous animated sci-fi story explores the theme of the transformative power of love between two women. As our story begins it is the 28th century, 200 years after the Great Earth Exodus. We re on Ganymede, one of Jupiter's moons. Our hero Naia is a feisty, young singer-songwriter who falls in love with the beautiful saxophonist Parker. The two embark on their new relationship and also form a band and now they have to not only make it as musicians but also to fight for their freedom. Dramatically rendered in rich, hand drawn animation, Strange Frame brings us into a world of space pirates, indentured slaves and genetic mutations infused with music throughout, to create a dreamlike tale unlike anything you ve ever seen.
